My husband and I are currently on a break without the kids. In normal circumstances I think I’d feel guilty about writing that but we’ve gone away to allow me to take sleeping pills every night in the hope that I’ll sleep (I’m an insomniac and in dire need of sleep).
Anyway, my husband very excitingly surprised me at the last-minute with a trip to Dubai. To say that I love to sunbathe is an understatement. Having the sun beat down on me and to feel its warmth makes me immeasurably happy. Why I continue to live in London then I just have no idea. So he’s whisked me away to allow me to sleep at night and relax in the sun reading books during the day. Perfect in every way.
It’s been made even more perfect in that we were upgraded to a fabulous suite. At the moment I’m sitting in an actual Sitting Room with a door leading to the Bedroom – AMAZING. It’s huge and we’re being spoilt.
We didn’t, however, pay for this suite. No. When my husband booked our standard double he mentioned that we would be celebrating our 6 year anniversary while out there (we in fact celebrated that back in April). Luckily he had pre warned me so when I was asked while checking in how many years we were celebrating it just flew off my tongue (I was highly impressed with how quickly lying came to me!. So, we’ve checked in and are being shown to our room and when they opened the door they said that they had upgraded us to help us celebrate in style. OMG – honestly OMG.
Not only are we staying in this amazing suite though but we also have free wifi (hence how I’m typing this now), free drinks all day by the pool and a bottle of their finest fizzy wine.
So…… how wrong is this, lying to get an upgrade?
I know lying is categorically wrong but surely this is just a little white lie? The room would have been going to waste? The fizzy wine would have gone off? We all deserve a little luxury in our lives??
So, a question to my lovely readers? Have you done this before and if not why not?
I’m also linking this to Mummy From The Heart and her Reasons to be Cheerful linky.

Oooh it looks lovely there, glad ur having a brilliant time, the upgrade sounds amazing xx
I am so pleased for the pair of you!! I am, however green with envy….in Feb I boarded a flight to our wedding CARRYING my wedding dress. Not a sniff of an upgrade or even so much as a glass of bubbly as a good gesture. For the three weeks of our honeymoon I made sure I mentioned the fact that we were honeymooners to every single place we went to stay (in advance). Not one single place made a nice gesture towards us, no flowers, no upgrades, no free wine. Nothing. In fact in Franschoek our bridesmaids ended up being given a better room than us?!?! We are definitely one of those couples that never win anything….not to say you shouldn’t enjoy your winnings tho darling
Lots of love and cuddles xx sleep well and soak up some rays for us xx
Oh Sue, I’m gutted that you didn’t get the royal treatment in SA
At least some wonderful friends took you out for a gorgeous dinner though
Make sure we come on holiday with you next time and we might be able to work some magic!!! x
That amazing dinner made up for it all! A joint holiday sounds a fab idea
xxx
oooh how exciting..I hope you both have a wonderful time..and what’s wrong with a little white lie…your having fun soooo enjoy it while you can
Thank you
Have a fantastic time! We went on a delayed honeymoon about six months after the wedding and as it was a road trip type thing we stayed in lots of different hotels. My husband milked it for all it was worth, we got many upgrades and bottles of champagne! Whenever he books a nicer hotel (he collects hotel points through his work) he always looks for an occasion to tie it in with – wedding anniversary, birthday etc.!) It has made me feel a little uncomfortable, but I don’t object of course!
Ha ha, looks like our men are quite similar
We have celebrated one of our “birthdays” a lot of times abroad!!!
I am sooooo envious of your free wifi. We are going next week and am hoping if I flash a massive smile at the person checking us they will give it to us…could work, right?
Hope you’re having an amazing time!
Fingers crossed it works. Have a wonderful holiday
Ooh I am jealous, how amazing, I hope you are having a wonderful time! Technically it isn’t lying… It DID happen, therefore it is just a bit delayed
Enjoy every minute! x
Thanks so much x
It was only a little white lie, we’ve all been guilty of them. Have fun!
Ha ha thanks
Lie! Lie your arse off for bubbles and WiFi. That’s what I say. And your man sounds like a good’un, taking you away so that you can sleep. x
Thanks
he is wonderful!
Wrong? I think it’s an excellent idea and am going to copy it at every opportunity for the rest of my life!
Love that. Keep me informed of your successes
No, I don’t think its wrong at all and I would do the same. I have tried it once at the airport but it didn’t work. Did do it in a hotel and got a free bottle of bubbly
My husband had insomnia, not to the degree that you have it and I can’t imagine how difficult it must be. If you tell one little white lie to help yourself feel better , one that really isn’t doing anyone any harm, where is the badness in that? I say ENJOY!
Thank you so much. I hope your husbands insomnia has now gone and he’s enjoying sleep again. Thanks
I’m serioulsy hoping you are having an amazng time, taking those tablets and stocking up on your sleep. Mich x
